ARTISTIC RESEARCH: Viriditas (Verdant Vitality )
My artistic research explores how, inspired by the wisdom of plants and animals, we can create a shift in consciousness that leads to love for the Earth and all its life. As I envision it now, my artistic expression will offer layered experiences of sensing, making, and reflecting.

STRUCTURE

1. Sensory Experiences with Scent

This component consists of sensory encounters that I will offer the research team throughout the entire project period. I work with the scents of native herbs and plants through a method I call olfactory storytelling.

With this approach, we explore the stories behind the chosen herbs and scents in a sensory way — from historical backgrounds and traditional uses to ceremonies and rituals. These experiences serve as an invitation to rediscover our connection to the Earth and its wisdom. They are closely aligned with the experience of the scent art installation.

2. Olfactory Art Installation

An installation designed to foster a deep connection with ourselves, the natural world, and the greater whole. The aim is to create a safe and nurturing space where we can rest, reset, and reconnect with the Earth. The installation will include:

  1. The Cosmic Egg
Throughout the project, researchers will be able to use the Cosmic Egg — a space for quiet reflection and gentle sensory (olfactory) stimulation.

  2. Artistic 'Findings'
Over the course of the research period, new artistic 'findings' will continuously evolve. These will eventually come together in a space surrounding the Cosmic Egg.I believe that the experience of safety and stillness is an essential condition for transformation. Only then can we begin to perceive our environment differently, open up to new perspectives, and cultivate love for the Earth and all that lives upon it.

I believe that experiencing a sense of safety and calm is an essential condition for transformation. It creates space to perceive our surroundings differently, to embrace new perspectives, and to develop love for the Earth and all that lives upon it.

March 2026

The Cosmic Egg has now been installed at Villa Berg en Dal, Centre for Religious Humanism in Baarn.

ECoPH researchers, as well as visitors, are warmly invited to take a seat in the Cosmic Egg and share their experiences.

You are welcome to book a personal session by appointment.
The experience is free of charge.

In return, I ask you to share your experience via a short (anonymous) voice memo, “Hildegard Listens.” Your contribution is part of the research; without this feedback, the experience cannot take place.
